Default A thought about the past...

Does anyone remember the time when nobody knew of the 6 months system and factions wasnt announced yet?

The time when people where still going around without maxed out weapons even at lvl20, and when not many people had greens?

The time when FoW armor was uber leetxorx, and if you had one people would really admire you?

I came back to the thought of the old times when i saw somebody sell victos blade for 3k, and i thought back at the times when it used to cost 80k, and victos shield 100k.

In those times Victos weapons, even if the axe and hammer where not as sought, where the most uber leet weapons to have and everyone worked their ass off to get one of those weapons.

But look at us nowerdays.

Everyone wields a green weapon of some kind, and there are literally hundreds of greens.

I also see people have several 15k for every single char they own, and many even have fow for each char...

Thats when i miss the good old times, where a non maxed out gold sword was worth a lot of k, and i only used to dream of a green in my hands...

And everyone had to walk to school in the snow uphill both ways.
My times were so good back in the day.

The six month system was ANNOUNCED well before Factions was introduced.
FOW armor wasn't "leet" because ebayers flooded in after GW hit around 1 million players.

And there were a lot of things I don't miss. For example: dye previews, refund points, no skill templates, no observer mode, no scrimmage matches...

I'd like to know where you get the stat "most people have multiple sets of FoW armor." I'm like, the richest guy in my alliance of 500 people, and I'm like one of the only guys who has a set.

Ooooh man how I long for those days...If you look back at the awesome weapons screenshot thread, it's so neat to see all those unmaxed purples and blues.

*Sigh*...

Well, the six month cycle was announced before prophecies even came out (of course not called Prophecies back then) in the FAQ on their site. Overall I do miss the old days, mostly because I use to play with rl friends but they have all moved on now. I'm not entirely sure I miss the whole feeling like a noob for the first few weeks bit though :P

Ah someone above me mentioned griffon farming, I can remember power leveling my third character with a friend via griffon farming. Oh, and the first time the Frog spoke, which as far as I'm concerned remains the best special event in GW thus far - so many people sync dancing at the same time.

Betas were the best time on GW,nothing can bring back the excitement we had back then about the new game and the unexplored wastness that was before us.
Still it always nice feeling to go to new terretory ,like it was in Factions and then elona. Now its GWEN... cant wait ^_^.

It is sad, but that is what happens with every game with as big a following as Guild Wars. The wonderful thing is, there are always new games to give that special feeling that everyone talks about but can't express completely. We are especially lucky in that we will get this in GW2. Play GW for what it is now, and don't dwell on what it was. When GW2 comes out, we will have the best of both worlds: an old and conquered game, and a new one to explore and just play.

The first time I read something about 6 months... well, not exactly... more like "2 issues a year"... was... I don't know if I recall correctly... but I think so... in the FAQ for the (Prophecies) World Preview Event 2004?
At least I remember wondering why the "first new" campaign wasn't coming as it was supposed to be, and instead the Sorrows Furnace Update came. And... yeah, I remember thinking that at that time...

Good old times. Although that was the time I decided to use collectors weapons. Good stuff, there. Took a while to get the max upgrades for them, though.

Whereas I see greens more or less as discount/bundle max items. They do have some specific skin, but they aren't moddable, and they only come in very limited variations. Even some of my Tahlkoras are wielding Kepkhets Refuges.

Imagine... I remember the times before there were runners. When chests weren't locked. When runes were so expensive that almost noone could afford them. When there were no titles. If you wanted to do something, you just did it for yourself, not to be awarded a title...
But who am I telling that? Some of you know it from their own experience, others don't care.

@MirageMaster
I know what you mean, although I wasn't in the Betas, the WPE 2004 was great... all that unexplored land... all the things to see... (and only three days time to do it.) Although Guild Capes looked like... how do you call those things that you bind around small childrens necks so they don't drool/spill food on their clothes?

As I said, I know there are many uber rich creme de la creme players, especially on a fan site like this. Even so, I wouldn't really say "many players" have multiple sets of FoW. Its probablly like .05% of the population as a whole.

Yea Griffon runs were the best. I cant stomach what the hell happened to Wrcamp. I get so depressed going to that place and see it totally empty like any other prophecy town in the dessert and/or shiverpeaks.
